- Description
- This project will replace Air Handling Units (AHU) AHU-6A and AHU-7A, which serve the UPS room in the mechanical wing. The existing ducts and chilled water piping will be modified to accommodate the new air handlers and to allow maintenance access. The heat load generated by the equipment in the room has changed since the HVAC system was designed and must be revised to meet the current demand. The new AHUs may require variable speed drives to manage the unusual heat load of the space. Low speed operation will allow for humidity control, and high speed operation will provide higher cooling capacity needed when the UPSs are put through their scheduled maintenance load tests. The design of the water proofing system used to protect the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) equipment from potential water leaks will be evaluated. The equipment curbs, insulation, and damaged rubber membrane will be replaced. Demolition activities will remove all previous hangers, supports, and brackets, along with abandoned pipes and conduits in the space. Lighting in the mechanical space will be relocated, to provide safe and effective work areas for maintenance operations and daily inspections.
