SOW - Bravo Reflux Endoscopy Unit Background While occasional heartburn may be normal, millions of people suffer from chronic esophageal reflux, which is characterized by symptoms including frequent heartburn, chest pain, indigestion, or bitter-tasting fluids in the throat or mouth more than twice a week. These chronic symptoms can interfere with daily activities and may be associated with a more serious problem known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD can damage the esophagus and, if left untreated, GERD may lead to more serious medical problems. Because GERD and other esophageal conditions can be hard to diagnose from symptoms alone, reflux monitoring may be a good way to evaluate these symptoms. By identifying the frequency and duration of reflux, doctors can decide on a treatment option for a patient's symptoms. Capsule-based Bravo pH monitoring or catheter-based Digitrapper pH-Z monitoring can be used to collect data which can determine the frequency and duration of reflux. Each device offers specific benefits for collecting valuable information for correlating symptoms to reflux. Objectives Bravo pH monitoring is a capsule-based, patient-friendly test for identifying the presence of acid reflux. Information is collected over multiple days, which allows the doctor to evaluate reflux symptoms by determining the frequency and duration of acid flowing back up into the esophagus. The test is used to confirm if the patient's symptoms are caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Period of Performance The period of performance will begin as soon as the equipment is physically received at the facility. The period of use will continue until the full life of the equipment has been exhausted. Place of Performance / Place of Delivery The procedures that this equipment will be used for will be performed in the Endoscopy Suite. Product Specifications A miniature pH capsule attached to the esophagus, pH data from the esophagus can be wirelessly transmitted to a small recorder worn on a shoulder strap or waistband. Because Bravo pH monitoring allows patients to maintain their regular activities, patients are provided with a convenient way to evaluate heartburn symptoms. The capsule design allows patients to take the receiver off to shower and sleep without interrupting the test. Additionally, maintaining regular activities and a normal diet during the test also has the potential to provide a more accurate picture of acid exposure, compared to data collected using catheter-based systems where normal activities may be limited. Government-Furnished Property, Material, Equipment, or Information (GFP, GFM, GFE, or GFI) Government-furnished property, such as Government-furnished material, equipment, or information is not required.
