- Description
- The Northern Region of the Forest Service anticipates awarding a contract for construction of a fish barrier on Smith Creek located on the Flathead National Forest in Northwest Montana. The Smith Creek Channel Structure and Fish Barrier Project requires construction of a concrete weir fish barrier structure and earth embankment dam structure. Work will include: clearing and grubbing trees and brush in a forest environment; excavating streambed materials; cast-in-place concrete; loading and hauling earthen materials from a gravel pit, placing, and compacting earth embankment; furnishing, hauling, and placing rip rap; dewatering; and seeding and mulching. The structure is accessible via Forest Roads numbered NFSR 901, NFSR 9550 and NFSR 90398. Forest Road 901 begins at approximately mile post 42 on Montana State Highway 83. NFSR's 90397 and 90398 are year round closed roads. To access Smith Creek project site from the South side beginning at the Junction Hwy 83 and NFSR 901 travel North 1.4 miles and turn left for 0.8 miles to the junction with NFSR 90398 the project site is 0.5 miles north. The berms on road 90398 will need to be replaced after the project is complete. The project is estimated to be between $25,000 and $100,000.
