Description
This amendment is being issued to change the NAICS code to 333314 Optical Instrument and Lens Manufacturing. NASA/ARC is hereby soliciting information about potential sources to provide: One (1) Brand Name or Equal, Sample Movement Stage (L-509 Linear XY Stage System). Objective: Our NIAC -I project titled "Urban biomining meets printable electronics: end to end at destination biological recycling and reprinting" requires printing of electronic materials using biomined ink. NASA needs next generation manufacturing technologies to embed structural electronics into objects built at destination. To date, there is no single printing technology available for in-space manufacturing that can print IC chips or passive electronic components on non-conventional substrates (i.e., non-silicon). The state of the art IC manufacturing technologies are not bulky and are not amenable for in space manufacturing. To meet these needs we have an in house built atmospheric pressure plasma jet printing system for printing electronic materials and circuitry using biomined ink. As the plasma jet printer is homemade, in order to have precise control over thickness and material properties an automated computer controlled stage is necessary for drawing patterns. Our vision is to use synthetic biology to reduce an IC chip into individual elemental components and to use these substrates to re-print electronic components using our plasma jet electronics printer with Martian atmospheric gases with low toxicity, mass and expense. Thus our vision is no less than a synthetic biology-enabled smart manufacturing tool that uses the Martian atmosphere to tailor material properties. In order to achieve this, an automated sample movement stage is necessary. The equipment is designed in such a way to avoid gravity dependency and hence the print head do not face the ground. The plasma jet printing system is designed to operate in micro gravity environment and hence the print head does not face the ground. It is in general parallel to the ground and face the wall. The substrate holder should be vertically mountable and have movement in XZ direction. This requires controllers that would work on both the directions without compromise. The gravitational pull is likely to slow down the Z axis and hence the printed pattern is likely to be different in x and z direction. To avoid this we need systems that can perform equally well in both the directions. The range in x and z directions should go unto 100 mm. The resolution should be anywhere between 0.1um to 1um and the velocity control at 20-30 um/sec. The system shall be user friendly to enable a non expert in the field to use the stage. Specifications: Shall be brand name or equal to the "L-509 Linear XY stage system", by Physik Instrumente (PI) L.P., 1 Harbor Drive, Suite 108, Sausalito, CA 94965, T) 408-533-0973, info@pi-usa.us. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) ARC is seeking capability statements from all interested parties, including Small, Small Disadvantaged (SDB), 8(a), Woman-owned (WOSB), Veteran Owned (VOSB), Service Disabled Veteran Owned (SDVOSB), Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) businesses, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)/Minority Institutions (MI) for the purposes of determining the appropriate level of competition and/or small business subcontracting goals. The Government reserves the right to consider a Small, 8(a), Woman-owned (WOSB), Service Disabled Veteran (SD-VOSB), or HUBZone business set-aside based on responses hereto. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in any resultant solicitation for the requirement. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized in FedBizOpps. It is the potential offerors responsibility to monitor these sites for the release of any solicitation or synopsis. Interested offerors/vendors capable of meeting the specifications should submit a capability statement of 2 pages or less indicating the ability to perform all aspects of the effort described herein, company name, point of contact, email address, telephone number and if they are a small or large business, to Wendy Takeguchi at wendy.l.takeguchi@nasa.gov no later than 2:00 p.m. (noon) PST, on Wednesday 3 August 2016. Please reference Sample Movement Stage, 4200592862-AWT, in any response.
