The Cell Processing Section (CPS) of DTM provides cellular therapeutics to support the treatment of patients in Clinical Center. One of the cellular therapeutics is Bone Marrow Stromal Cells (BMSCs) which demonstrated great potential in treating a lot of diseases. CPS has been manufacturing BMSCs since 2009, and they were used to support multiple clinical trials sponsored by NHLBI, NIAID, and numerous research projects in NHLBI, NCI, NIAID and NIBIB, which are very important for patient care. Especially in a NHLBI sponsored protocol titled Preliminary Assessment of Direct Intra-myocardial Injection of Autologous Bone Marrow-derived Stromal Cells on Patients Undergoing Revascularization for CAD with Depressed Left Ventricular Function (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01557543), the patients obtained significant improvement after BMSC treatment.
