- Description
- The Dyess Air Force Base existing taxiway Alpha was constructed in the 1950s, and the taxiway pavement is approaching the end of its useful life. The paving is in a deteriorated condition, which creates a higher risk of foreign object damage (FOD) to aircraft that could negatively impact the mission of the base. This has created a need for a higher level of preventative maintenance. The scope for the project is to saw cut and remove the existing concrete slab taxiway, which is 10,000' long and 125' wide. It will be replaced with new concrete slab paving of mainly two sizes with reinforcement and joint seals to protect against water intrusion, ensure proper load transfer, and maintain a level profile. The construction of the new paving will include sub base layers and materials to provide suitable structural stability and drainage characteristics. Additionally, the existing 9' of asphalt shoulder will be removed and replaced. The construction phasing is anticipated to require multiple phases moving from south to north. The contract period of performance is 600 calendar days. Solicitation will be issued on or about Ausust 13, 2015. POC is Julie Meyer at julie.meyer@usace.army.mil
