- Description
- Working with Sandia Brochure Background Information: Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) has patented a shear horizontal, surface acoustic wave (SH-SAW) biosensor for in-situ pathogen detection. The sensor has the ability to detect at the pg/mm2 level and can perform multi-analyte detection in real time. Because it doesn't require additional reagents as most biosensors, this sensor can be used for point-of-care (POC), rapid autonomous detection of pathogenic microorganisms and bioagents in a field deployable platform. The technology is described further in US Patents and US Patent Applications: •U.S. Patent No. 8,436,509, issued on May 7, 2013 for "HIGH-FREQUENCY SHEAR-HORIZONTAL SURFACE ACOUSTIC WAVE SENSOR" •U.S. Patent No. 8,669,688, issued on March 11, 2014 for "HIGH-FREQUENCY SHEAR-HORIZONTAL SURFACE ACOUSTIC WAVE SENSOR" Technology Highlights: -Capable of performing environmental detection and medical diagnostics -Detects a wide range of microbes and biological agents: protein, toxins, bacteria, spores, viral particles -Target <1000 cells/ml sensitivity for anthrax simulant; demonstrated <100 cells/ml -Detection limit <1000 spores/ml; 400 pg/cm2 protein -HIV, Herpes, Coxsackie and Hanta virus detection with complex viral backgrounds -PDA controller, battery powered, runtime > 20 hours -Point of Care (POC) diagnosis Opportunity Description: SNL is seeking partners to further develop and commercialize a high-frequency, shear-horizontal surface acoustic wave (Love wave) sensor. Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs) and Licensing Agreements are available. Sandia invites interested parties to provide a detailed description of relevant background, experience, expertise, and capabilities that could be brought into a collaborative partnership with Sandia. Specific requirements are as follows: Mandatory Requirements: 1) U.S. companies able to enter into a CRADA agreement with Sandia National Laboratories, which requires in-kind contribution in the form of laboratory staff and instrumentation 2) U.S. companies capable of providing a minimum of $200K funds-in 3) Demonstrated experience in bringing products to market Desired Requirements: 1) Demonstrated experience, expertise, and capabilities in the design, development and manufacturing of medical equipment 2) Demonstrated successful partnering and teaming relationships with R&D organizations In addition to evaluating the provided information as outlined above, Sandia will evaluate all responses and select prospective parties with which to engage in further discussions based on the following criteria, pursuant to Sandia's technology transfer mission: 1) How will the respondent deploy the technology for the benefit of the U.S. public good? 2) How will the respondent's deployment of the technology benefit U.S. economic competitiveness? Sandia is a multi-program laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, for the United States Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration under Contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.
