Description
This is a notice of the Government's intent to solicit and award a sole source contract to K&R Technologies, LLC dba Microbiology International ("K&R"), 5111 Pegasus Court, Suite H Frederick MD 21704 for a vertical media preparation unit. K&R is the only known source which can provide the required this vertical media preparation unit. The required unit is for the preparation of microbiological growth media and is capable of preparing 120 liters of enrichment broth in a single batch in 90 minutes including cool down time. It is fully automated with an internal probe to document sterilization parameters which is necessary to document ISO 17025 requirements. It has a locking mechanism dependent on temperature and pressure for safe operation, uses over pressure to prevent boil over/foaming. There is a PC interface for RS232 connection giving full traceability and diagnostic capabilities. Dispensing can be done by peristaltic pump or pressure. Built in printer for recording. Varying stir speed control at end of cycle that can decreases to avoid foaming. There are multiple programs and an audible additional alarm cycle end alarms, fail safe. There is no other automated equipment on the market that can produce this volume in a single 90 minute cycle. The supplying vendor is the sole source distributor for this equipment and there is no other vendor or manufacturer who can provide comparable equipment. This procurement will be conducted under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. Authority: 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1). The unit will be shipped to our Eastern Lab which is located in Athens, GA. It is anticipated that this procurement will be conducted as a Commercial Item acquisition under FAR Part 12. This is not a request for quotations or an announcement of a forthcoming solicitation. Request for copies of this solicitation will not be honored or acknowledged. The Government does not intend to pay for information received. All interested parties must respond within ten (10) business days from the date of this notice. Written responses must provide clear and concise documentation indicating your firms capability to provide the unit. Verbal responses are not acceptable and will not be considered. When responding to this announcement, respondents should refer to Announcement AG-3A94-S-14-2000. If after August 11, 2014, no viable responses have been received in response to this announcement, USDA/FSIS shall negotiate solely with K&R.
