Description
This is a notice of award for the following items: DigitalLynx 16SX-M Base Digital Lynx Base Interface with Multiplexing headstage support. Gigabit Ethernet over Fiberoptic Connection - includes HS-36 Impendance Plug with accessories. The award is sole source to Neuralynx, Inc. The item is a custom assembled system that will record elecrophysiological data from multiple regions in an awake behaving animal, and provide data in the format that the PVAMC has built a suite of software and internal practices to analyze. Additionally, the custom system is the only system on the market that currently offers the ability to record from both digital and analog recording devices, utilizing telemetry for wireless signals, video tracking, and optogenetic stimulation in 4 light wavelengths. Since the work planned under the VA grant requires both the usage of digital and analog recordings devices as well as telemetry and optogenetic stimulation, this Neuralynx system is the only option currently on the market. Likewise, this custom assembled system provides the largest number of parallel recording channels for the price in comparison to other systems on the market. This Neuralynx system is a unique piece of equipment that is an extensive and expensive piece of equipment that is critical for the research being conducted under various VA research grants. The item requested in Section III has to fit the requirements of a) fully integrated recording and analysis software b) an ability to work with both digital and analog recording devices we employ, and c) parallel recording of 96 channels or more, and the ability to switch between analog and digital acquisition for telemetry. All the requirements of the supply requested, the custom assembled system by Neuralynx, Inc., match the existing system. Therefore, the requested device eliminates the need to spend additional time and money to recreate software or purchase a parallel system to enable both digital and analog recordings of 96 channels or more. Additionally, this electrophysiology system is critical for the research to be completed under the auspices of the VA research grant given to investigators at the VAMC. Accordingly, Neuralynx is the only firm capable of providing the custom supply described in Section III above without the Veteran's Health Administration experiencing substantial duplication of costs that could not be expected to be recovered through competition. Additionally, Neuralynx is the only firm capable of providing the custom supply described in Section III above without the Veteran's Health Administration experiencing unacceptable delays in fulfilling its requirements since our potential vendors would need to design and fabricate an entirely new product. Neuralynx currently has the product and would not have this delay (expected delivery to be 2 weeks after order approval).
