Description
The U.S. Army, Army Contracting Command-New Jersey, on behalf of the Grenades & Demolitions Division, ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000, is requesting information from industry for an affordable, low cost, prototype power source for a new hand emplaced grenade. The design must be compliant with all relevant MIL-STD-331 and MIL-STD-810 testing with the following specifications: Volume: (including casing) approximately 0.11 cubic inches Voltage: 2.0V (threshold) 3.0V (objective) Current: 500 microamperes (uA) (threshold) 1.0 mA (objective) Rise Time: 400ms 100ms across temperature range Operating Time: 6 seconds (threshold), 8 seconds (objective) Storage Temperature: -54 Degrees Celsius (-65 Degrees Fahrenheit) and +71 Degrees Celsius (+160 Degrees Fahrenheit) Operating Temperature: -51 Degrees Celsius (-60 Degrees Fahrenheit) and +49 Degrees Celsius (+120 Degrees Fahrenheit) Long Term Shelf Life: 20 years across temperature range This Request for Information (RFI) is to determine if there are potential power source solutions for a new hand emplaced grenade. Interested companies, U.S. or foreign, who consider themselves capable of manufacturing an affordable, low cost, prototype power source, for a new hand emplaced munition (alternative grenade) are invited to indicate their interest by providing the U.S. Government the following information: 1) any specific and pertinent information pertaining to this request that would enhance the government's ability to evaluate the performance of the alternate of the power source; 2) operation performance including but not limited to storage and operating across specific temperature range; 3) reduced sensitivity when tested in accordance with MIL-STD-2105D whichever characteristic applied to the power source during the storage and operating; 4) compliance with the appropriate provisions of MIL-STD-1911A whenever the power source apply; 5) compliance with the requirements of MIL-STD-1316D and tested in accordance with MIL-STD-331C; 6) maturity of technology in terms of the Department of Defense Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7) system prototype demonstration in an operational environment; 8) specific test data and detailed design documentation to include but not limited to materials, chemical compositions, chemical characteristics, mechanical properties and mechanical design of the power source; 9) the power sources technical drawings is requested if available; 10) indicate if testing was conducted using a MIL-STD or NATO STANAG when submitting test data and indicate if testing was conducted using a MIL-STD or NATO STANAG when submitting test data; 11) provide a Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) for the production (unit) costs for the range of 5,000 to 20,000 per year; 12) indicate the size of the business entity, large or small, for NAICS code 332993 (business size standard: 1,500 employees) and 13) please provide the name of the firm, address, POC, phone/fax number, and email address. All information is to be submitted either via email (10 MB limit) to the point of contact below or DVD to the address provided below, at no cost or obligation to the Government; information provided will not be returned. Responses to the RFI shall be in English, and should be in MSWord or PDF format. Appropriate security markings should be placed on contractor sensitive information. All submissions are requested electronically within 30 calendar days from the date of this publication. All information submitted will be held in a confidential status. All companies interested in a potential future solicitation for this item will need to be registered in System for Award Management (SAM) at https://www.sam.gov. The Government will accept written questions by email to the below point of contact. Telephone responses will not be accepted. Interested companies are encouraged to submit their capabilities/qualification data NO LATER THAN THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS RFI.
