Description
Crane Service for Placing Bulkheads at Lake Darling Dam Crane service with operator and tenders - Contractor to provide all equipment, labor and material to complete services that involve furnishing crane service with associated equipment to support the movement and placement of six (6) bulkheads on Lake Darling Dam located within the Upper Souris National Wildlife refuge which is approximately 20-miles NW of Minot, ND. See location map. The required period of services is to start approximately at 0700 hrs on August 5, 2014 and end at approximately 1700 hrs on August 7, 2014 with 10-hour workdays. All work shall be performed in accordance with the following bulkheading procedure: General - there are six identical bulkheads that are interchangeable are 43-feet in length and weigh 25,000 pounds. A pickup beam that weighs 7000 pounds. And a lifting sling that weighs 1600 pounds. All dry weights. Procedure - use a crane sufficient to lift one bulkhead with lifting beam and lifting sling. A tractor trailer with a 45-foot trailer used to load and move bulkheads and lifting equipment when necessary. 1. Initially retrieve one bulkhead, the lifting beam and lifting sling from the nearby storage area loading them on a 45-foot trailer and bring them to the bridge. 2.Move the crane to the bridge and place the first bulkhead. 3.Retrieve the remaining bulkheads that are stored in each tainter gate bay on the bridge and place on top of the previously placed bulkhead. 4.Repeat the process removing bulkheads from one tainter gate bay to the next tainter gate bay. There are a total of five tainter gate bays. 5.At the end of the final day of work place bulkheads back in their storage slots and move one bulkhead, lifting beam and lifting sling back to the storage area they originally came from. **Note: in placing bulkheads in the past they were picked from their slots and carried to the bay that was going to be used. Traffic Control - traffic control and coordination will be done by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Purpose - to exercise and set limit switches on the tainter gates and perform minor maintenance to be completed by the Corps of Engineers and US Fish and Wildlife Service.
