- The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest of the US Forest Service anticipates awarding a construction contract for removal of a barren pond at the Beal Mountain Mine site. The project is located at the Beal Mountain Mine located in the headwaters of German Gulch in the Pioneer Mountains, Silver Bow County, Montana, about 16 miles west southwest of Butte and 10 miles southwest of Fairmont (Gregson) Hot Springs. The Beal Mountain Mine is a former open pit gold mine. This project consists of the removal of the cyanide barren pond which was used in the processing of gold at the site. During reclamation, this pond was used as part of a biological water treatment process and contains residual bio solids. The purpose of this project is to remove the barren pond and perform exploratory exploration work in an effort to locate and dispose of pipelines, underdrains and any contaminated material beneath and adjacent to the pond. The following are the major work items:  Burial of existing HDPE pipes near the Water Treatment Plant; Removal and disposal of concrete pads and miscellaneous debris;  Removal, drying and placement of biosolids from the Barren Pond;  Removal, drying and placement of underlying clay soil and excess soil;  Exploratory excavation;  Construction of a lined temporary drying pad;  Construction of a temporary repository; and  Transfer of runoff to the leach pad; This is a presolicitation notice only. A detailed solicitation will be posted in approximately 15 days.
