- Battelle Memorial Institute, Pacific Northwest Division (Battelle) operating the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking contractors to perform non-destructive examination (NDE) of Category I, Safety Significant (SS) fire suppression system piping using ultrasonic detection (UT). The UT examination equipment shall: • Be capable of detecting debris, obstructions and air pockets within the piping. • Produce pipe wall thickness results that can be compared to new Schedule 40 pipes having the same construction and schedule (wall thickness). • Must actively indicate real time results while the examination is being performed; methods of display could be a computer screen or a similar display. Note: UT equipment displaying thickness measurements only as digital numerical readings are not acceptable. Personnel performing UT inspection shall be qualified and certified in accordance with SNT-TC-1A, Recommended Practice for Personnel Qualification and Certification in Nondestructive Testing. Documentation to verify that the contractor's person(s) meet these requirements must be provided prior to performing work.
