RFI Synopsis F12SOL10036 SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION REQUEST FOR INFORMATION CONCERNING E-COMMERCE PLATFORMS Synopsis: Smithsonian Enterprises ("SE") is performing market research to gain information about currently available advanced E-commerce platforms for the purposes of issuing a request for proposals in the near future. SE would like to implement a flexible, customizable, secure E-commerce platform to build and support multiple, distinct, and separate on-line storefronts with unique domain names and separate financial reports. Please submit a written response to SE incorporating the requested information below. (Responses should be sent to the address listed below or emailed to gclark@si.edu) In addition, responses should include your willingness to provide an on-site demo at a mutually agreeable date, if requested. Note: This is not a request for proposals, quotations, or bids. Responses should include demonstrated proficiency with the following capabilities: a) For the E-commerce platform being recommended, provide technical information related to the following advanced on-line shopping features, as well as any additional supported features: -Designing and customizing an on-line storefront. -Customizing a shopping cart process with abandon cart options and discounts/ coupons. -Configuring credit card and other purchasing options. -Building and execute marketing campaigns. -Building and executing promotional campaigns. -Customizing merchandising features. -Building a customer address database. -Recommender systems. -Customer feedback surveys. -Administering Content. -Managing inventory. -Running Standard and ad-hoc reporting. -Executing web and email marketing campaigns. -Maintaining security and compliance standards. b) Provide technical information on how the platform supports separate and distinct on-line storefronts with separate domain names, product databases, customer databases, credit card processing connections and separate financials. c) Povide detailed network and hardware design configuration specifications required to support the E-commerce platform. Include any hosting options (in-house vs. SAAS). d) Provide technical support (e.g. 24 * 7 support, etc.) and maintenance options for the hosting options (in-house vs. SAAS) e) Provide references and links to successful on-line stores currently running on this E-commerce platform. f) Provide details on E-commerce platform product offerings including available product feature packages and pricing models along with typical implementation timelines. g) Provide a brief summary of your product plan for the next five to ten years. All submissions should be either sent via regular mail at the address listed below or in the form of a pdf attachment via e-mail to gclark@si.edu. SE will review the submissions and decide whether or not to seek further information or to request an on-site demo. SE does not guarantee that it will respond to or acknowledge receipt of your submission. This is a request for information only. A request for proposals may or may not be issued as a result of information received. SE shall not pay for or reimburse offeror for any costs incurred in creating the submission. All submissions become the property of SE. SE reserves the right to cancel this request for information at any time. The deadline for submitting information is September 5, 2012.
