Description
The U.S. Army Product Manager Soldier Clothing and Individual Equipment has identified the need for a capacitive touch screen compatible Army combat glove built to purchase description (PD) GL-PD-08-081C GLOVES, COMBAT, ARMY. The design shall be allowed to vary from (PD) GL-PD-08-081C GLOVES, COMBAT, ARMY only when necessary to implement the capacitive capability and/or highly increase the tactility and accuracy of use with the smart device. The intentions of this RFI are to investigate capacitive touch screen compatible gloves that meet minimum Flame Resistant (FR) and heat and thermal requirements. The capacitive gloves are being researched to determine if there are available options to provide Soldiers the capability to wear combat survivable gloves while manipulating a Graphic User Interface and tactical software applications loaded on a Commerical-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) smart device (i.e. smartphones and tablets with capacitive touch screen displays) in a combat environment. The smart device will reside inside a protective case making the corners of the capacitive touch display difficult to reach due to the depth and sharp angles of the case. Therefore the capacitive glove must be form fitting to the hand, focused on the fingers and finger tips in order to provide more tactile accuracy when interacting with the capacitive touch screen. Aside from PM SCIE's interest in capacitive gloves, The Nett Warrior (NW) program, a Program of Record within PEO Soldier, is also a stakeholder in the capability. The NW system will be fielded to Team Leaders and above across 38 Brigade Combat Teams between FY13 and FY16. Soldiers receiving the NW system will require a capacitive touch glove to operate the NW system in a combat environment. Interested firms that currently or will have capabilities that can meet the requirements of this product description are requested to submit relevant information on their product and company within ten (10) days following the publication of this RFI. Any relevant company background/experience, business category, costs, and any other information that the company believes demonstrates their value/ability to meet the aforementioned requirements should be included. Respondents must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) Database and provide a DUNS number. Firms may register for the CCR at www.ccr.gov. All information and evaluation results will be controlled and used for Governmental purposes only. The submitted responses and data will be reviewed by both Government and embedded support contractor personnel. Responses to this notice are to be sent to PM Soldier Clothing and Individual Equipment, ATTN RDNS-WPW-C Ms. Stacey Lee, 15 Kansas Street, BLDG 4, Natick, MA 01760-5000. This notice is for information only. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTATIONS. No solicitation document exists for this action. POC for this request is Ms. Stacey Lee (508) 233-5118, FAX (508) 233-4795 or e-mail stacey.l.lee8.civ@mail.mil (Please note email change from previous notices).
