Description
This project consists of constructing 4 miles of new trail, and reconditioning of over 4 miles of existing trail. Construction items include clearing and grubbing, turns, drainage structures, sign and bulletin board installation and turn construction. Stake refreshing and cleanup are required in this contract. The project is located in rocky soil. The main objective of this project is to create a safe riding environment for the mountain and dirt bikers frequenting the area. Project Location and Directions. The Coalpit-Brownback Trails Construction Project is located in the Tobacco Root Mountains, Jefferson Ranger District, Madison County, Montana. This ia a popular destination for mountain bikes and dirt bikes. Early access in June is expected on the lower sections of trail. To get to the Mill Creek Trailhead take the Whitehall Exit off 1-90. From Whitehall head South on Hwy 55. After approximately 8 miles turn left towards Waterloo onto a County Road near Parsons Bridge. Travel approximately 2 miles to a junction and turn left towards the mountains. Continue on this road until you see a sign that says "Mill Creek Trailhead 4 Miles". Turn left onto this road and continue to the trailhead. There is a washed out section of road that will require a high clearance vehicle. From the trailhead the trail heads north. There is an ATV trail heading east at the trailhead. To get to the Pole Canyon or Brownback Trailheads, take the Cardwell Exit off I-90. From Cardwell head south on 359 for approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto South Boulder River Road. Travel approximately 7 miles to a junction and turn right towards the Trailhead. It is approximately 1 mile straight ahead to the Brownback Trailhead. Just before the Brownback Trailhead there is a road with a gate off to the right, this road takes you to the Pole Canyon Trailhead. There are four trails in this project. Trail #7155 is the Coalpit Trail approximately 5 miles in length and requires the most work of all the trails. Trail #7156 is the Brownback Trail 3 miles in length. Trail #7157 is the Pole Canyon Trail with 1 mile of moderate work. Trail #7163 requires minimal work only to fix up two climbing turns. Three of four bulletin boards will be installed at the Coalpit-Brownback Trail System Trailheads. The fourth bulletin board will be installed at the Thunderbolt Trailhead located south of Helena in the Boulder Mountains. To get to the Thunderbolt Trailhead travel south of Helena on I-15. Take the Bernice Exit #151and head west under the interstate. Travel for approximately 4 miles to a junction in the road, turn right and go over a bridge. Continue on this road approximately 4 miles until you reach another junction adjacent to the Whitehouse Campground. Turn right and follow this road about 3 miles up to a parking/dispersed camping spot with an older toilet. This is the Thunderbolt Trailhead. Install the bulletin board as staked. A complete solicitation package will be provided to this notice by April 20, 2012. At that time all interested bidders may respond.
