Description
The Naval Postgraduate School s (NPS) Center for Asymmetric Warfare (CAW) implemented a Sensor Island concept providing an unprecedented capability to integrate dynamic sensors and sensor platforms for response missions enhancing situational awareness across participating homeland security and disaster response organizations. The Sensor Island provides a robust, trusted infrastructure and connection technologies that allow sensors, sensor platforms, and sensor users to interact, interoperate, and meet those challenges. The Sensor Island includes system and software components that translate sensor and platform information into open geospatial consortium output that can be consumed by multiple common operational pictures from advance emergency operations center geographic information system displays to smart phones. The CAW requires contractual services of operational and subject matter expertise in GIS and sensor integration to support the integration and visualization of various sensor elements into existing and proposed multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional exercise and operational experimentation events. The CAW has planned requirements for the Sensor Island and its capabilities to support exercise and research activity supported out of the CAW facility in Pt. Mugu, CA. The CAW requires that the Sensor Island, established at the CAW s Pt. Mugu facility, be updated and upgraded, configured, and optimized to include the latest underlying geographic systems, database, and Smart Points software. The updated Sensor Island will be used in planned exercises (e.g. Coastal Trident 2012) and research interests (e.g. NPS Remote Sensing) spanning the CAW s client base as well as supporting the larger mission of the Naval Postgraduate School.
