Description
. CTII is a beyond-line-of-sight, situational awareness system that displays participating aircraft positions, along with threat and blue force data. This information is overlaid on a digital moving map display. Additionally, CTII provides secure, two-way communications between participants via text messaging or through the transfer of small data files. The CTII system uses a secure Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Satellite Communication (SATCOM) transceiver with a Windows-compatible laptop or electronic kneeboard for user control and display via Tracker software. The CTII system creates a network that links aircraft with each other and with ground stations. SIPRNET users can log into the CTII network using a computer loaded with Tracker software, send/receive messages, and track CTII-equipped aircraft. The CTII system has roll-on/off capability for multiple aircraft platforms. Within each satellite footprint, a single CTII is configured as a Control and Relay Station (CRS). In this mode, the equipment operates as the network master for a satellite channel and defines the Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) frame boundaries by periodically transmitting a start-of-frame message. The other CTIIs within the satellite footprint are configured as In-Transit Units (ITUs). ITUs log-in with the CRS and are assigned a time slot within the frame for transmitting GPS-based position reports. Other portions of the frame are available for text messages, tactical information, and other types of data.
