Description
The Infantry Squad Battle Course (ISBC) is used to train and test infantry squads on the skills necessary to conduct tactical movement techniques, detect, identify, engage and defeat stationary and moving infantry and armor targets in a tactical array. The squad can conduct individual maneuvers as well as collective maneuvers (battle drills). The ISBC though, is not designed to accommodate aerial gunnery support activities. Primary features of the range include fully automated, utilizing event specific, computer driven target scenarios and scoring. Targets receive and transmit digital data from the range operations center. The captured data is compiled and is available to the unit for use during the after action review (AAR). The ISBC will be tailored to the requirements set by the installation's training requirements and specific site terrain features. The strategies for the final range layout will be based on the following criteria: Training directives, priorities, and guidance established by Fort Irwin Range Control. Squad battle tasks. Squad mission-essential task list. Squad training priorities. Training resources and availability. Terrain availability. This battle course supports the following ammunitions, 5.56mm, 7.62mm, 9mm, 25mm,.50 cal and frag grenades. Primary downrange features include the following: 6 stationary armor targets. 1 moving armor target. 20 stationary infantry targets. 6 moving infantry targets. 2 trench obstacles. 5 machine gun/observation bunkers (with sound effects simulator) This range project will contain the following buildings in the administrative area. Range Operations Center (Tower). The ISBC location has an existing tower in good condition that will be renovated to meet current requirements. 290 square feet. Operations/Storage Building, 800 square feet. Classroom Building, 800 square feet. Covered Mess, 800 square feet. Bleacher Enclosure, 726 square feet. Latrine - Aerated Vault, 200 square feet.
