Description
This publication serves as notice of intent to procure service from Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group located in Belfair, WA for the US Department of Commerce, NOAA, National Marine Fisheries Service. The Contractor shall collect juvenile steelhead from the Dewatto, Tahuya and Little Quilcene Rivers to estimate the amount of genetic variation within and among steelhead populations and to monitor the abundance and migration patterns of juveniles in supplemented and non-supplemented watersheds. The Contractor will collect as many as 120 juvenile steelhead from the Dewatto and Tahuya Rivers between August and September 2012 by hook-and-line and/or beach seining. Juveniles will be collected from the upper, middle and lower reaches of the Dewatto and Tahuya Rivers in the portion accessible to anadromous O. mykiss. The Contractor will also collect, mark, and release steelhead smolts from the lower reaches of the Dewatto, Tahuya, and Little Quilcene Rivers by operating screw traps during the Months of April and May 2013. Each captured fish captured will be measured (fork length). Scales and a DNA sample will be collected and appropriately preserved for later analysis by NOAA. The location (nearest. 0.1 river kilometer) of each fish captured will be recorded along with the unique number assigned to each sample. All biological information will be recorded on preformatted data sheets. Authority for sole-source purchase is 41 USC 253 (c) (1) only one responsible source and no other source will satify agency needs. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all proposals received within 15 days of this publication of this synopsis will be considered by the government.
