- NASA is replacing the current Doppler Radar Wind Profiler at Kennedy Space Center,Florida.This synopsis is intended to form the basis for a competitive procurement of a completereplacement including design, build and installation for the existing Doppler WeatherWind Profiler(DRWP)which has become increasingly difficult to maintain due to its age. The KSC 50 MHz DRWP provides wind speed and direction measurements at 150m verticalintervals from 2 to 18 km. A complete set of measurements, called a wind profile isreturned every three to five minutes with a wind component RMS accuracy of about 1 m/sand negligible bias. (Schumann et al., 1999; Pinter et al., 2006). While not the mainfunction, the DRWP is operated continuously 24 hours daily, seven days per week providinginformation for routine weather forecasting and input to numerical weather predictionmodels. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities, qualifications, past performanceand contact information to perform this replacement to the identified point of contact nolater than 2:00 PM EDT 02 April 2012. The respondents may be contacted in evaluating the data to determine the qualificationsto meet this radar replacement project.Oral Communications are not acceptable in response to this notice.All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.
