Description
The US Army Contracting Command - New Jersey, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000, on behalf of the U.S Army Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), is seeking information regarding a solar reflective matte finish paint or paint additive (SRMFP) for ammunition and ammunition containers. This effort is for research and development. The goal is to determine if a commercially available coating exists prior to undergoing in-house development. The task for this work is to determine if a commercial available coating has the ability to reduce the heating of ammunition and ammunition containers due to solar loading. This shall be accomplished by reflecting and increased portion of incident solar energy but not by increasing the gloss, insulation, or thickness of the coating. Contractors shall provide information on pigment or coating products that have the capability to increase the incident solar energy reflected by the coating in order to reduce the heat transferred to the ammunition item or container.Submissions shall be TRL 6-9 with validated test results. 1.Requirements1.1.Contractor responsibilities to meet the following capabilities:1.1.1.SRMFP shall reduce the temperature in degrees Celsius by at least 5% in direct sunlight.1.1.2.SRMFP shall be able to be incorporated into a powder coat or e-coat system for application to ammunition and ammunition containers. 1.2.Contractor responsibilities to meet the following engineering requirements:1.2.1.SRMFP shall meet the requirements set forth in Specification Control Drawing 12998172 in notes 1, 2, 3, and 4.1.3.Contractor responsibilities to meet project requirements:1.3.1.Contractor shall deliver relevant information regarding potential SRMFP candidate and provide a point of contact if more information is required.1.3.2.Contractor shall mark all proprietary information and distinguish it from other information submitted. Firms/companies are invited to indicate their capabilities by providing specifications, brochures, manuals, reports, demonstration video, etc. and provide information of previous experience related to this type of work. The information provided will not be returned. All data should be sent at no cost to the US Government NO LATER THAN April 23, 2012 to the US Army ARDEC. ATTN: Pamela Penaherrera Bldg 45C Picatinny, NJ 07866-5000, email: pam.penaherrera@us.army.mil. The Government will accept written questions by email. This is a market survey to be used for informational planning purposes only and shall not be construed as a Request for Proposal (RFP), nor is the Government obligated to issue an RFP.
