Description
The Environmentally Responsible Aviation (ERA) project, within the NASA IntegratedSystems Research Program is holding a Meeting of Experts on NASAs Plans for System-LevelResearch for the Environmentally Responsible Aviation Project. The meeting will be held on March29, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center, 775 12thStreet NW, Washington DC 2005-3901, (202) 737-2200.The Environmentally Responsible Aviation (ERA) project, within the NASA IntegratedSystems Research Program, is a 6-year project ending in FY15. ERA is maturing technologyfocused on simultaneously reducing fuel burned, oxides of nitrogen emissions andcommunity noise profiles of passenger and cargo transport aircraft. Over the next 3fiscal years, the anticipated research will be conducted to mature technologies fromtechnology readiness level (TRL) of 4 to TRL 5 or 6, with an emphasis on thosetechnologies that can be matured to a higher technology maturation level and those thathave demonstrated commercial viability in the 2020 to 2025 timeframe. The NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) is currently developing plansfor system-level research efforts for the ERA Project. NASA has developed its plansinternally and would like to obtain comments and observations from the externalcommunity, based on future technology plans. The purpose of this one-day meeting is forthe ERA Project to discuss the following items and to present a strategy for feedback anddiscussion:Mature technologies focused on simultaneously reducing fuel burned, oxides ofnitrogen emissions and community noise profiles of passenger and cargo transport aircraftfrom technology readiness level (TRL) of 4 to TRL 5 or 6, with an emphasis on those thathave demonstrated commercial viability in the 2020 to 2025 timeframe;Identify 5 technical focus areas and associated technical challenges to beaddressed during FY13-FY15 through integrated systems research;Determine the potential impact of these technologies on advanced conventional andalternative aircraft designs; and Determine the potential impact of these technologies if successfully implementedinto the air transportation system.Additional information on the meeting, including pre-registration, is available at: http://www.nianet.org/ERAmeetingofexperts/index.aspx.
