Description
The National Park Service, Department of Interior, is soliciting quotes from firms having the capability to provide the item(s) listed below. This solicitation will be issued electronically on the Department of Interior's National Business Center (NBC) website at https://ideasec.nbc.gov. Paper copies of this solicitation will not be made available. Prospective bidders desiring to conduct business with DOI are requested to register at the National Business Center. Bidders wishing to receive electronic notification of changes will need to register to receive notification of this specific solicitation at https://ideasec.nbc.gov. Issue Date: On or about March 12, 2012Bid Closing Date: 2:00 pm March 26, 2012Solicitation Number: P12PS22340 Title of Requirement: Reproduction Civil War Limber for a Model 1841; 6 lb. field gun Limber specifications: This project will purchase a fully historic reproduction limber for a model 1841, 6pound field gun. The limber must be made to the exact measurements and specifications of the original ordnance department. The limber must be made of kiln dried Red or White Oak, and any joining must be done with a biscuit joiner and glued with a waterproof glue under high pressure. Seams where joints come together must be sanded smooth and painted where the seams are not visible. All wood and metal must be free of cracks. Metal hardware must fit snuggly to the wood. The spokes, felloes, and spacers of the wheels are to be tight and not loose. The tires are to be tight and there are no gaps between the tire and felloes. Metal work on the limber must be of ductile iron, with at least 60,000 lb. strength, or rolled steel. All metal hardware pieces will be sanded smooth and parting lines and seams will be smoothed and removed. All wood must be pre-treated, then covered with at least 2 layers of boiled linseed oil, then a bonding primer. The limber will then be painted with a minimum of 2 coats of appropriate period correct Civil War artillery green acrylic paint. All seams and joints will be painted and there will be no runs, chips, overspray on hardware, and no primer or other undercoating's visible. All metal hardware pieces will be painted with a minimum of 2 coats of rust proof primer and 2 coats of black enamel paint. Ammunition box specifications: Ammunition box for the limber will be made to the exact specifications of the ammunition box for a Model 1841, 6lb field gun limber. The box will include all standard partitions for a smoothbore 6lb gun and include round separators if applicable. The box will also include a removable inside tray. Construction of the box will be of finger joint oak with the lid made as per the original for safety. Original boxes were made with center boards made of a softer wood in case of an explosion the bulk force would go up through the lid and not out the sides. Lid is to be covered in copper as per the originals and nailed in place.All wood must be pre-treated, then covered with at least 2 layers of boiled linseed oil, then a bonding primer. The limber will then be painted with a minimum of 2 coats of appropriate period correct Civil War artillery green acrylic paint. All seams and joints will be painted and there will be no runs, chips, overspray on hardware, and no primer or other undercoating's visible. The box must be free of cracks in the wood and metal. All metal will be painted with a minimum of 2 coats of rust proof primer and covered with a minimum of 2 coats of black enamel paint. All metal hardware pieces will be sanded smooth and parting lines and seams will be smoothed and removed. All wood seams and joints will be sanded smooth and painted where seams and joints are not visible.The appropriate 6lb. field gun Table of Fire will be glued on the inside of the ammunition box lid.
