Description
THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE PURPOSES OF MARKET RESEARCH. THERE IS NO SOLICITATION AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. The U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC), National Protection Center, in conjunction with the Combat Feeding Directorate, is seeking information on SHELF STABLE FOOD PACKS. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Authorized Equipment List (AEL) item number for this equipment is 21CR-00-FOOD (Shelf Stable Ready to Eat Food Packs). A Shelf Stable Food Pack is defined as an individual meal with a shelf life of not less than 1 year that provides not less than 500 calories per pack. The target audience for this information is the Emergency Responder community and all submittals should be suited to their specific needs. The requested information will be included in the Shelf Stable Food Pack Market Survey Report. By providing information in response to this RFI, you agree that the System Assessment and Validation for Emergency Responders (SAVER) Program may use both the equipment information and any provided images in SAVER outreach. Review of this information is being performed for DHS, Science and Technology Directorate. DHS established the SAVER Program to conduct objective comparative assessments and validation activities that provide the emergency responder community with information on important products and services. All information received will be treated as public knowledge and may be used in SAVER Program documentation; therefore, vendors should not submit proprietary information in response to this RFI. The intent of this market research will be to provide the emergency response community with feedback on the commercially available Shelf Stable Food Packs that can be used by Emergency Responders. The results of the market research will not yield a determination of what product is best, nor shall NSRDEC or the SAVER Program endorse any product or manufacturer. Responses to this RFI shall be formatted in accordance with the RFI template file which can be obtained by contacting the project officer via e-mail (Ms. Tina Howard - Kristina.Howard1@us.army.mil). The RFI template file (MS Excel) will require the following information regarding your company and product: 1. Company name, address, and URL. 2. Company classification as a manufacturer or distributor. 3. Point of contact name, phone number, and email address for follow-up information. 4. Product name and brief description. 5. Product shelf life. 6. Storage conditions and temperature required to achieve aforementioned shelf life. 7. Cost per food pack as well as cost per case. 8. Number of food packs per case. 9. Volume per food pack as well as per case. 10. Weight per food pack as well as per case. 11. Nutritional content per food pack to include nutrients typically required on a food label (calories, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, sodium, total carbohydrate, dietary fiber, protein, vitamin A % DV, vitamin C % DV, iron % DV, calcium % DV). 12. Whether food pack includes a heater and if so, a description of the heater. 13. Whether food pack contains utensils, and if so, a description of the utensils provided. 14. Whether food pack contains a beverage, and if so, whether the beverage requires reconstitution with water. 15. Whether consumption of any component in the food pack requires hot water and if so, identification of which components. 16. Whether consumption of any component in the food pack requires potable water and if so,identification of which components. 17. Commercial brochure and/or image, if available. 18. Industry standards and/or unique certifications. Submittals: Information about a particular brand/product should be submitted in electronic format by 4:00 pm EST on April 10, 2012 by e-mail to Tina Howard at Kristina.Howard1@us.army.mil.
