Description
NASA/ARC is hereby soliciting information about potential sources for the lease ofABAQUS Commercial Finite Element Software. ABAQUS is a two-part finite element solver, ABAQUS /Standard and ABAQUS /Explicit, plus apre/post-processing program, ABAQUS /CAE, in the same package. ABAQUS /Standard is animplicit solver that can handle structural, thermal, and static & dynamic nonlinearproblems and offers unique capabilities not found in comparable solvers. Among them:-User-programmable features. For example, definition of special-purpose materialconstitutive relations, elements, or contact behavior using FORTRAN subroutines, which isabsent in most competing finite element solvers. ABAQUS was the first code to offer hooksto its internal code with sub-programs written in commonly used programming languages. -Advanced contact algorithms using slave/master surfaces and automatic contactdetection-Model updating during an analysis using element removal/addition or contactsurface pair removal/addition. -Inclusive set of constitutive models for materials such as elastomeric andcrushable foams, poro-elasticity, deformation plasticity, creep, viscoelasticity, etc.-Direct use of raw test data to fit various constitutive models for creep, viscoelasticity, and hyperelastic material behavior. ABAQUS /Explicit is a special-purpose solver for high-speed and transient contact/impactproblems, such as ballistic impact and shock loading. The explicit feature for timeintegration eases the convergence of highly nonlinear solutions and discontinuousproblems that are impossible to handle with implicit solvers. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Research Center (ARC) isseeking capability statements from all interested parties, including Small, SmallDisadvantaged (SDB), 8(a), Woman-owned (WOSB), Veteran Owned (VOSB), Service DisabledVeteran Owned (SD-VOSB), Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) businesses, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)/Minority Institutions (MI) forthe purposes of determining the appropriate level of competition and/or small businesssubcontracting goals for the lease of ABAQUS Commercial Finite Element Software. TheGovernment reserves the right to consider a Small, 8(a), Woman-owned (WOSB), ServiceDisabled Veteran (SD-VOSB), or HUBZone business set-aside based on responses hereto. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If asolicitation is released it will be synopsized in FedBizOpps and on the NASA AcquisitionInternet Service. It is the potential offerors responsibility to monitor these sitesfor the release of any solicitation or synopsis.Interested offerors/vendors having the required specialized capabilities to meet theabove requirement should submit a capability statement of two (2) pages or lessindicating the ability to perform all aspects of the effort described herein. Please advise if the requirement is considered to be a commercial or commercial-typeproduct. A commercial item is defined in FAR 2.101.This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as acommitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemedfully qualified will be considered in any resultant solicitation for the requirement. All responses shall be submitted to Rachel Jandron at Rachel.A.Jandron@nasa.gov no laterthan March 16, 2012. Please reference NNA12417483R-RAJ in any response.
