- Past Performance Questionnaire Solicitation FDA1100602 The FDA has a requirement for an Orbitrap Elite hybrid mass spectrometer with Electron Transfer Dissociation capability. This high resolution and high mass accuracy spectrometer is required for various regulatory projects and ongoing research projects, primarily for the characterization of complex biotechnology-derived protein pharmaceuticals. High resolution is needed to differentiate all the components in a very complicated biopharmaceutical. High sensitivity is essential for low abundance components. Accurate mass is required to confidently identify active ingredients, isoforms, adulterants, contaminants, and biosimilars. Electron Transfer Dissociation (ETD) is the only technique which can be used to determine the site of post-translational modifications. Acquisition of the requested high resolution accurate mass Orbitrap Elite hybrid mass spectrometer with ETD will greatly enhance FDA's capabilities to perform characterization of complex bio-pharmaceuticals and biosimilars and speed up various regulatory and research projects.
