Description
THIS PROJECT IS NOW BEING HANDLED BY FEDERAL LANDS HIGHWAY DIVISION. New Solicitation Number DTFH70-12-B-00001 IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS PROJECT, PLEASE CONTACT FEDERAL LANDS HIGHWAY DIVISION (360)619-7520 OR E-MAIL wfl.contracts@dot.gov In June of 2010, a storm caused an extremely high flow event in Eagle Creek, washing out the side slopes of the road in 3 areas on Forest Service Road 77: Mileposts 25.7, 26.3, and 28.1. This project is to repair the fill slopes utilizing riprap buttressing, an MSE wall, and placing backfill and aggregate surfacing. Development of the riprap and material sources are also included in this project. Final roadbed width shall generally be 16', plus curve or fill widening as designed. At milepost 25.7 and 26.3, large riprap shall be installed along the toe of the fill slope to stabilize the road and protect the slope during future storm events. This riprap shall be keyed into the streambed approximately 4' below the bottom. Backfill shall be hauled from material sources located on Forest Roads 7015075 or 6700140. Riprap shall be obtained from roadside rock outcrops located adjacent to Forest Road 77. If this material cannot be obtained by traditional ripping techniques (i.e., using an excavator or dozer), then controlled blasting shall be utilized. Drainage ditches along the cut sides shall be constructed to reduce the risk of slope failure in areas where culverts are located. At milepost 28.1, a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall shall be constructed on the fill side to reestablish road width and stabilize the road. The height of the wall shall be approximately 9 feet with a 9:1 batter at the front. Because the wall shall be constructed, no additional riprap is needed in this location. Backfill material for this location shall be obtained from the material source located on Forest Road 6700140. Guardrail may be required at this location due to the vertical drop-off for user safety.
