- Sonex will utilize its extensive small engine small engine expertise and will engage skilled subcontractors to achieve these objectives. Sonex and its subcontractors employ personnel with deep domain expertise converting, modifying, and designing engines for DOD use. The overall aim of the proposed effort is to maintain a COTS-based approach with partners identified for transition to producution to insure that factors impacting planned production will be addressed. With this in mind, the preferred approach to the auto start objective would be to examine the use of the existing Honda windings. An investigation into the capablities of the existing Honda windings will be performed with the assistance of subcontractor Sullivan Products, a proven supplier of power and starting systems. Contractor options are proposed to investigate alternatives in the event the investigation fails to support use of the Honda windings. Another contract option is proposed to apply the auto start system for potential introduction into the Mod 1 carbureted 1 kw, JP-8 fueled Honda generator.
