Description

The existing Aquatic Research Lab (ARL) is currently housed in the 331 Building within the 300 Area of the Department of Energy's Hanford Nuclear Reservation. The ARL conducts research in approximately 2,169 sf within the 331 Building and occupies approximately 4,000 sf of exterior yard space The existing water conditioning and distribution system is very old and in poor condition. This exterior yard is not ideally arranged for current research and suffers from the extreme summer and winter weather effects. This project is divided into two phases. Phase I will be the installation of a new ~5,000 SF pre-engineered metal building that attaches to the south side of the 331 building. Phase II will be the interior renovation of ~2,200 SF of existing aquatics lab space. The project is divided into two phases to be able to maintain on-going aquatics research while the project is executed. There will be a 1-2 week transition between phases as research will need to relocate from the 331 building into the new addition before Phase II can begin. Phase I construction should commence in late March or early April with completion in October or November 2012. Phase II construction should commence upon completion of Phase I and run for 2-3 months until about January/February 2013.
