- Questions: Do all of the rabbits have to be of the same strain, or would a mix be acceptable? Covance recently purchased Myrtle Rabbits and therefore is able to offer both Covance and Myrtle rabbits for sale. Answer: The rabbit strain has to be New Zealand White. Unfortunately both Covance and Myrtle (who are vendors and not strains) have rabbits with Bordetella spp in their colonies and are not acceptable as a specific pathogen free research rabbit. Question: While it is noted in the RFP that weekly delivery is expected, is there an expectation of a regular once a week delivery? If so, is there an estimation of how many rabbits per week or per month will be needed? Is there any flexibility regarding when rabbits can be delivered? Answer: The vendor must be able to deliver at least once a week. The number of rabbits delivered and the delivery date will depend on the research performed. The importance is that the vendor will delivery weekly so that if the investigator needs to order quickly to continue a study the mission will not be delayed. Question: It is noted that rabbits are described in the RFP by weight. Is there an age limit or age range expectation? Answer: We order Rabbits by weight not by age.
