- The Portland VA Medical Center (PVAMC) is seeking the following professional Composting Services: The contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, material and supervision necessary to perform complete composting services at the Portland VA Medical Center (PVAMC). This includes collection of all composting material that accumulates in contractor-owned containers. Work will include program management, providing all collection containers, placing containers, emptying containers on set schedules or on an on-call basis, hauling material away, properly disposing of the material and performing all other tasks related to the removal and recycling of the material. VA employees will not provide any assistance with the composting services provided by the contractor. This is not an agency locum tenens solicitation. Types of materials contractor must properly dispose of: all food scraps, including meat, fish, dairy, fruit, vegetables, shells, bones, pasta, rice, egg shells, nut shells, breads and grains. All food soiled paper and approved compostable packaging, including coffee grounds and filters, tea bags, waxed cardboard, soiled paper bags, kitchen paper towels, paper napkins, uncoated take out containers and paper plates, approved compostable containers and tableware. The contractor is responsible for maintaining all contractor containers ensuring they are free of unpleasant odors, dirt, debris, and pests. All containers must remain in good, workable condition. They shall remain easily accessible to customers. The contractor is responsible for performing all cleaning, painting, repair and other maintenance tasks off site. Trucks and trailers used for hauling and collecting shall be washed as required to ensure they are free of odor, dirt, debris, and pests. The anticipated start date of this contract is 02/01 2012. The contract will be for an initial period of one year, ending 01/31/2013. Four possible extension options are provided, depending on contractor performance. This solicitation will result in a Firm-Fixed Price, non-personal services contract. There is possibility for multiple award. North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code is 562111, with a size standard of 500 employees. Interested parties are encouraged to register on the solicitation mailing list.
