- Description
- The FAA intends to solicit and award a firm-fixed price contract for the replacement of the existing Runway 4R Mark 1F Instrument Landing System (ILS) with a Mark 20A ILS at Chicago Midway Airport (MDW), Chicago, Illinois. The contractor shall provide all labor, supervision, materials, and equipment to perform the project in accordance with the contract clauses, drawings, and specifications. The work under this contract shall be performed in phases: Phase 1: The contractor shall construct new glide slope shelter and antenna tower while existing system is in operation. All equipment and personnel shall remain outside the critical area while the existing system is active. The contractor shall construct the RVR equipment rack and DME antenna foundation. The contractor shall remove the existing asphalt paved access road from the RTR and construct new asphalt paved access road outside the OFA. Phase 2: The contractor shall coordinate shut-down of RWY 4R ILS and relocation of fiber optics equipment and cables with the FAA SSC through the resident engineer. While glide slope is out of service, FAA installation personnel will be on site to install new equipment rack and tune antennas installed on tower by contractor. Contractor shall remove existing Localizer antenna and associated power, control, and signal cables, and install new antennas, distribution unit, wireway, and associated foundations. Phase 3: The contractor shall coordinate relocation of FOTS equipment and cables prior to demolition of existing glide slope antenna tower and shelter with FAA installation technicians through the resident engineer. Demolish existing site and restore turf area. FAA installation technicians will prepare Localizer and Glide Slope equipment for flight check. The resident engineer will hold a CAI inspection and contractor shall address punch list items. The work will be performed in strict accordance with the contract specifications and drawings. Work under this project will be performed inside the Runway Safety Area (RSA) which will require the closure of the runway and shall be performed between 2200 and 0500 hours. Contract performance time is 80 calendar days, with an anticipated start date of May 1, 2012. The estimated price range for this procurement is between $500,000 and $1,000,000. NAICS is 237990. INTERESTED FIRMS MUST HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED SIMILAR PROJECTS BOTH IN DOLLAR AMOUNT AND SCOPE OF WORK AT AN OPERATIONAL AIRPORT.
