- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) intends to award a single source contract to Verocel, Inc, 234 Littleton Road, Suite 2A, Westford, MA 01886.The Global Navigation Satellite System Division (GNSS), (AJW-9131) has a requirement to develop RTCA/DO-178B, Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification, Level B certified safety computer for the application in the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). The Contractor is to design, construct and verify a new safety computer design against the safety computer unit specification and to assist the FAA in verification efforts for the safety computer operation with FAA-provided application software within the WAAS environment, including delivery of an initial set of production safety computers. The new safety computers will become part of the WAAS operational baseline; replacing the existing safety computers and providing the central processing unit (CPU) capacity necessary to perform the safety computer functions allocated in the WAAS architecture. Purpose of Announcement: In accordance with the FAA Acquisition Management System paragraph 3.2.2.4, the purpose of this announcement is to inform industry of the basis of the FAA's decision to contract with a selected source via single source procedures. Verocel has prior experience in developing the certification materials for the existing WAAS SC and is also the sole provider of DO-178B certification packages for the Operating System (Wind River VxWorks) currently used in WAAS. This announcement is for informational purposes only, not a Solicitation/Request for Proposal. A full and open competition is not available for this procurement. If your firm does not agree with the single source determination, please provide evidence of your firm's capabilities and experience in providing similar services and the FAA will evaluate this accordingly.
