- Description
- The Government has reassessed the procurement strategy to replace the current SAS and SFS contracts. FABS and CABS (under a separate FBO announcement) were developed based on a projection of $755M in total support was needed for the life of these new programs. By late August 2011, the Government acquisition process resulted in the approval of $271M in total procurement authority, representing a $484M (64%) reduction. At this level, SMC found the benefits to manage and sustain two programs were not effective for a variety of factors to include cost, acquisition cycle, efficiency, and overall economy of effort. As a result, the SMC team has decided to cancel FABS and CABS as separate source selections and consolidate the requirements under a single procurement vehicle. SMC estimates the consolidation of SAS and SFS optimizes overall efficiency, effectiveness, and consistency in managing continuous change and the Advisory and Assistance Support profiles. SMC considers the benefits of consolidation exceed those of other alternatives. Based on the above, SMC Acquisition and Financial Support (SAFS) has been established as the follow on acquisition for Advisory and Assistance Support services provided by the SAS and SFS programs.
