- Notice Type: Award NOTICE OF SOLE SOURCE AWARD: The VA Network 22 Contracting Activity (NCA) has awarded a purchase order as a sole source requirement to University of California, San Diego Medical Center (UCSDMC) for the below listed requirement. This announcement is published as a sole source pursuant to the authority of 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1) as implemented by FAR 6.302-1, Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services Will Satisfy Agency Requirements. UCSD is the only source for the specialized pathology professional interpretive and diagnostic services including specialized biopsies, special stains, interpretation, and diagnosis confirmations. Procurement of the specialized services from Veterans Affairs affiliate, UCSDMC, is in support of the following areas of studies: renal, neuropathology (nerve/muscle), immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy and is within reasonable distance to the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) as the tissue specimens are fresh and have a life span ranging from minutes to several hours.. The primary objective of this purchase order is to provide professional interpretive and diagnostic services per above description. This contract will provide capabilities in support of the renal, neuropathology (nerve/muscle), immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy studies allowing the VA staff to conduct more effective treatments with patients who are treated in the areas of renal or neuropathology. UCSD provides the specialized pathology services that are not currently available at the VASDHS. The purchase order was awarded on October 1, 2011 with a start date of October 1, 2011 for a period of one year.
