- Description
- Conduct an assessment of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest trail system. The assessment will cover 200 miles of trail over 57 different trails. Solicitation documents will be posted to this FBO webpage about October 20, 2011. A pre-proposal meeting and conference call will be held at 2:00pm EDT on November 3, 2011 at the Forest Supervisor's Office in Gainesville GA. Directions and call-in information will be included in the solicitation. Price range is less that $150,000. The project is expected to begin approximately December 1, 2011 and be completed within 180 calendar days. The work shall consist of the following four phases. (1) INVENTORY -- Complete the trails inventory, evaluating the current physical, social and managerial settings. Conduct the inventory with the assistance of trail volunteers. Utilize the inventory method as a means to also provide outdoor education where volunteer participants learn how to assess, repair, and maintain problematic trail sections. The work will include extensive cooperation with both the public and agency personnel to help better understand the assessment process. (2) CLASSIFY -- For each trail or trail segment, review the USFS Trail Fundamentals: Trail Type, Trail Class, Managed Use, Designed Use, and Design Parameters. Classify/Reclassify each trail fundamental based on inventory findings. (3) ASSESS -- Assess the content, character and condition of each trail or trail segment, focusing on two key criteria: recreational value and sustainability. (4) PLAN -- Develop a Trails Management Plan for each trail or trail segment, to provide a summary of findings and recommendations for future management. The plan should include a conceptual trail layout plan that address sustainability, reroute alternatives, new trail loop connectors, and trail user recreational experience.
