Description
The Department of Veterans Affairs VA Western NY Healthcare System has a requirement for the Contractor to provide four Micro-Vent 70 cage environmental housing systems for mice with blowers, single exhaust escutcheon plates, iris dampers and variable flow valve setup for thimble exhaust connection and the need to modify 200 cages to add air to the assembly. Needed also are one 28 cage stainless steel mobile mouse unit for use in quarantine units and two 35-cage stainless steel mobile mouse units for use in animal hosing areas. All caging will have automatic watering which fits with the existing system in the Veterinary Medical Unit. The system that is in need of replacement due to age and useful life must be compatible with the existing system from Allentown Caging Equipment. This purchase will replace existing equipment that was determined by Central Office to be in need of replacement due to age and useful life. We will be modifying 200 of our current cages to fit the Micro-Vent Systems to save on cost per unit. These cages will be used in the change out process required twice a week according to Viv11.1 SOP's. We will also be utilizing in-house food hoppers and cage card holders that comply with this system. The other caging units will utilize caging already available in the VMU. A switch to another vendor would require the purchase of 560 cages for units similar to the Micro-Vent, 56 cages for the 28 cage unit and 140 cages for the 35-cage units. Standardization is also required to eliminate the need to purchase similar numbers of food hoppers because hoppers from different vendors are not compatible with different caging systems. All of the above units are compatible with the automatic watering system in place in the VMU. This is notice of intent to sole source with Allentown Caging Equipment Co Inc, Route 526, P.O. Box 698, Allentown, NJ 08501-0698. The Statutory Authority Permitting Other Than Full and Open Competition cited is: 6.302-1(b)(2) 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1). Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements due to the existence of compatibility. This is not a request for proposals. NAICS is 332999 and small business size standard is 500 employees. Any questions can be forwarded to Mary.Betker@va.gov
