Description
Cordell Hull Dam is located at river mile 313.50 on the Cumberland River in Carthage, Tennessee. The Cordell Hull Project is comprised of a navigation lock, a powerhouse, an embankment, and a spillway section. The spillway section consists of 5 tainter type steel gates each 41 feet tall by 45 feet wide mounted on concrete spillway piers. The gates are operated by overhead machinery. The spillway section also includes an overhead gantry crane which is used to move unwatering bulkheads for performing maintenance on the gates. The project includes only enough bulkheads to unwater one gate at a time. The work covered by this contract includes surface preparation and coating of spillway gates at Cordell Hull Dam. All surface areas shall be painted with the epoxy paint system specified in the contract. The Contractor shall assume that the tainter gates and all appurtenant area are free of lead base paint. The Contractor shall also remove and dispose of all wood, tires, buoys or other debris collected on the gates. The Contractor shall provide all materials, equipment, and labor necessary to complete the work and ensure that the spillway gates and appurtenant areas are clean and ready for operation. The Contractor shall also be responsible for disposing of any materials removed from the gates during this work. A lead concentration test of the gate paint is included at the end of Section 01 00 50 FORMS AND ATTACHMENTS. All work shall be field performed and must be done with water load removed from the gate. All work shall be accomplished in accordance with the procedures prescribed in the contract specifications and drawings.
