- An 'Airuv' is a religious ritual enclosure of a specified geographic area, and is a principle unique to the Jewish faith. The purpose of which is to allow members of the Jewish faith to be able to carry and transport items on the Jewish Sabbath and certain Holidays without violating the normal restrictions of those holy days as proscribed by Jewish Law. An Airuv is commonly found in many Jewish civilian communities, and is a great religious and socially-beneficial convenience for practicing members of the Jewish faith. This would likely be the first of its kind implemented in a military context, and would 'enclose' a sizable portion of West Point proper with focus on the Central Cadet Area and its immediate surroundings, thereby enabling Jewish Cadets, staff and faculty this denominational religious benefit thus facilitating fulfillment of duty and mission without religious compromise.
