- Description
- To give notice of questions and answers to the solicitation: E11PS55218 Questions and Answers. 1) This project calls for a contractor to provide services and products that meetprofessional museum artifact conservation casework standards for physical stability, security, and object preservation, while ensuring safe and easy access for museum stafffor exhibit rotation and maintenance 1a) Is it correct that the offerers are required to demonstrate their capacity to providesuch casework design and fabrication by providing a list of five or more projectscompleted in the last three years? Such project should have client contact information, describing the work, and its similarity or applicability to the requirements of thissolicitation? Yes 1b) In addition, is it correct that the resumes of key personnel to be assigned to theproject be needed to demonstrate their experience and understanding of therequirements of a museum grade artifact conservation case, along with a discussion ofthe suggested approach to accomplish the required tasks of this project. Yes 1c) Is there any other information the offerer should submit to be considered astechnically qualified to provide the required services and products. No 2) Please clarify the features of term "wall insert." Is it to be a floating shelf? Not a floating shelf but a vertical panel that separates (halves) the depth of the case, making it a two-sided case (ie can be viewed from both sides and the "wall" inside becomes like the back of the case, regardless of which side you view it from. 3) Should this project be priced for "delivery" or for "delivery and install"? Just delivery. 4) Please clarify dimensions of Case #2: Should the wall case read as 24-inches widthby 36-inches height x 14-inches deep, rather 24-feet x 36-feet? Yes, you are correct 5) Regarding Case #1, the case as described appears as a polygon. Access for a caseof this configuration prevents the use of hinged or sliding mechanism. The conservationcase issues to control RH makes access more difficult. (see attached diagram) Wesuggest that this case should be placed on a straight flat wall. a) Have we interpretedthe description correctly? No. The angle goes in the other direction. It is the wall that angles in, not the case. The case would angle out, to fit into the wall. B) To address conservation issues and provide better pricing, is it allowable to modify this case to a 4-sided wall case with a pedestal base? The issue is that the wall is extremely narrow if the angle is not used, making its use for exhibits minimal. For the museum quality Exhibit Cases, the specifications call for " thickness acrylic with anti-reflective coating. Is it permissible to offer UV filtering, antireflective glass as a substitute for the acrylic for these surfaces? Yes, provided that the cases open per the specs (ie the glass doesn't have to be removed with suction cups). Contract Wording: "Base, backwall and drawers constructed of Medite medium density fiberboard finished with a two-component polyurethane powder-coated finish (color to be selected by the COR from standard colors available from the contractor). " The highlighted generally refers to a process that applies to metal surfaces, was that the intent of the COR to include this verbiages as it relates to a MDF product?Answer: Powder-coated finish refers to metal. This would apply to any collar or lip around the vitrine, if used. Colors would be coordinated to match. #2 Contract Wording:3 & 4 basic description: Wall-mounted cases, consisting of a back wall panel and bottom shelf, with four-sided acrylic vitrine, concealed space for silica gel cartridge, and two interior acrylic shelves. " Four sided, meaning front, two sides and top? The reason we ask is there is a specified MDF bottom and back, so please clarify. Answer: The vitrine is 4-sided (front, left and right sides, and top). The MDF back and base would be in the shape of an "L" if that helps, and the vitrine provides the rest of the sides. #3 Contract Wording:Case Design Elements: -minimum features for these cases must include the following:" Backwall and bottom shelf constructed of Medite-type medium density fiberboard (MDF) made with a formaldehyde-free adhesive, and finished with a moisture-cured polyurethane sealant to prevent off-gassing (all edges sealed)." Exterior dimensions of the cases are to be 24 inches feet wide x 36 feet high x 14 inches deep (including vitrine)." Backwall and bottom sh Answer: This was a typo. The measurment is inches, not feet for both 24 and 36.
