Description
Acquistion purpose and objectives The purpose of this JOFOC is to extend the duration of the current Westat support services contract from September 30, 2011 to April 30, 2012, in order for them to provide seamless research support to the Clinical Genetics Branch as we pursue the next support services contract for a five year period. This support services contract provides the major source of research-related administrative, clinical nursing, genetic counseling and logistic support services for the Clinical Genetics Branch (CGB), HGP, DCEG, NCI. CGB's mandate is to integrate molecular and clinical observations in cancer genetics into an interdisciplinary approach involving epidemiologic, clinical, genetic, behavioral, statistical, and laboratory methods, aimed at developing evidence-based management strategies for persons at increased genetic risk of cancer. The central research strategy relies upon the detailed assessment of individuals from cancer-prone families, clinical/epidemiologic/genetic analysis of second cancers and other outcomes among treated cancer patients, or other high-risk populations, such as those with persistent human papilloma virus (HPV) infection. The contract provides nursing and research support for our family studies and intervention trials. We also use this contract for pilot investigations which may be a prelude to larger studies, and to address other public health needs through collaborative ventures with various extramural research programs. Given the highly collaborative nature of our work, the contract supports the work of multiple Division of Cancer Epidemiology (DCEG) branches [including CGB, the Biostatistics Branch (BB), and the Hormone and Reproductive Epidemiology Branch (HREB)], NCI's Center for Cancer Research (CCR), NICHD, NHLBI, NIDR, the Clinical Center and numerous extramural investigators in both the US and abroad. CGB is currently involved in 12 studies that are supported under the support services contract with Westat. This contract supports the work of 22 CGB scientific staff members, including: • 3 Senior Principal Investigators; • 3 Tenure-track Investigators; • 3 Staff Clinicians; • 4 Senior Scientific Staff; and • 9 Fellows.
