Description
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Acquisition Management Division, on behalf of the NIST Biochemical Science Division intends to negotiate with A&J Machine Work, 14004 Schaeffer RD, Germantown, MD 20874, on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR Subsection 13.106-1(b), for the fabrication of custom parts for nano-/micron-particle processing devices and dialysis/filtering cells. *****The Sole Source determination is based on NIST Biochemical Science Division need for custom parts that will be interchangeable and compatible with existing parts previously manufactured by A & J Machine Works. This is considered a follow-on sole source, acquisition. An award to A & J Machine Works for fabrication of the specified components is anticipated. NIST is currently in the final stages of developing a prototype unit as a multi-component instrument with interchangeable parts. As such, modified and add-on component parts of the instrument must meet unique specifications and tolerances in terms of connectivity and overall performance A & J Machine Works is the only company with previous knowledge of the NIST prototype instrument A & J's knowledge of the existing components along with their technical capability makes them uniquely qualified to manufacture the final components required by NIST to complete this prototype. Machining of Custom Machine PartsThe parts/components must be compatible and interchangeable with existing components. The existing components were built/manufactured by A&J Machine Works under a competitive acquisition.. *****NO solicitation package will be issued. This notice is not a request for competitive proposals; however, interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to this requirement. Inquires will only be accepted via email to maria.gray@nist.gov. The government will consider responses received by 3:00 p.m., EST, 09/13/2011. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed acquisition base on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
