- The Naval Sea Systems Command intends to procure, through full and open competition, the development, qualification, and delivery of the Hybrid Electric Drive (HED) Electric Propulsion System (EPS), and the HED EPS production shipsets for the DDG 51 Fleet Modernization Program. The HED EPS shipsets will include the propulsion motors, motor drives and the associated controls, interfaces, and mounting equipment that will be required to install the HED EPS on DDG 51 Class Ships. This procurement will include a basic requirement for non-recurring engineering and engineering services as well as options for future year shipsets, pre-production units for land based and environmental testing; the conduct of the environmental testing and long lead materials. A competitive solicitation is planned to be issued shortly. All inquiries should be emailed to tara.borntreger@navy.mil. A draft solicitation and draft technical specifications have been released in FBO for industry review and comment as part of the synopsis posted on August 3, 2011. This synopsis is being posted to both the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) site at http://www.fbo.gov and the Navy Electronic Commerce Online (NECO) site at http://www.neco.navy.mil. While it is understood that FBO is the single point of entry for posting of synopses and solicitiations to the internet, NECO is the alternative in case FBO is unavailable. Offerors may utilize either site to access information posted by the Naval Sea Systems Command.
