- This is not a solicitation for services. Seeking certified sources to pack in mule loads into the San Rafael Wilderness to support trail crew work and to pack out additional loads. Pack loads will include food, camp items, and trail tools. This Sources Sought Notice is being submitted to support stock packing services in support of trail crews. The trail work is critical to accomplish for public access into the San Rafael Wilderness that was heavily impacted by the LaBrea Fire of 2009, subsequent flooding, and also for resource and trail protection. Packing services are required to support backcountry trail crews from California Conservation Corps performing trail work in two remote sections of the San Rafael Wilderness. Mules and packers are required to effectively support these large crews with heavy loads of food, trail tools, and camp materials. The packers and animals are planned for packing the camp in at the start of the trail work, weekly re-supplies of food, and removing the camp at the end of the CCC trail work. All packing support is designed to minimize packing costs and resource needs as opposed to paying additional labor to stage the stock in at the camp sites for the entire time of the trail work. Potential vendor must currently have valid Forest Special Use Permit authorizing outfitter pack support and guiding services in the Los padres National Forest. Potential vendor must demonstrate RECENT EXPERT knowlege and experience of the San Rafael Wilderness, specifically the Sweetwater and Judell Trailheads. Potential vendor must demonstrate access to 15 mules. A solicitation may or may not be issued depending upon the availabiltity and qualifications of interested vendors.
