- Description
- The Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (1), with University of Maryland, College Park, MD for a follow on of services needed by the Optical Technology Division at NIST, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Sole source determination is based on this acquisition being a follow-on contract, which is for the further development of highly specialized equipment. University of Maryland is the original contractor and developer of the Pulsed Terahertz Imaging and Scattering experimental apparatus. The University of Maryland remains the only known vendor capable of continuation of the further modification and development of this experimental apparatus. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 541712, and the size standard is 500 employees. A determination by the Government whether to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for quotations. However, responses received by September 10, 2011 will be considered by the Government.
