Description
Specifications for Cruise Ship Training Model for the CSNCOE Scale: No smaller than 1:100 Overall model length: No longer than 8 feet. For ease of transportation, the model must be in two parts of approximately equal length (i.e. front half and back half) that can be joined together solidly and quickly with pins and holes. Joined halves are to show little to no sign of a joint-seam (no more than 1mm visible seam). Model shall be firmly bolted to a sturdy base with metal pedestal supports. The base shall also be designed to separate with the model and fit in the transportation boxes. Model type: No off-the-shelf designs. The design and features of this model must be representative of a modern (i.e. 5 yrs old or less) cruise ship but not be identifiable to any particular cruise ship brand currently operating. Construction: The use of wood in the construction is to be limited only to provide internal (i.e. non-visible) strength/support to the exterior visible portion of the model. The model is to be of resilient materials (i.e. high grade acrylic or fiberglass resin) and the fine details must be of brass sheeting, acid etched where necessary. The exterior of the model shall be of sufficient detail to be totally representative of features available on modern cruise ships (portholes, windows, balconies, pools, exhaust funnel, lifesaving equipment, etc). The starboard side of the model (hull and superstructure) will be designed with openings (side "cut-aways") revealing internal spaces. The internal spaces will be constructed of the same resilient materials and in fine scale model detail. All revealed internal spaces will be complete with deck, walls, and overheads including typical outfitting. Design features: Prior to construction of model, model designer to coordinate with CSNCOE to develop arrangement and association of the various cut-away sections. Final cut-away layout design will be approved by CSNCOE prior to construction. Internal spaces revealed by the cutaway sections shall include:  A main stairway (minimum of 3 decks to show deck landings and intermediate landings)  An atrium and lobby area (showing all decks of the atrium)  Tiered multi-deck theatre (minimum of 3 decks)  Horizontal stairway (typical of "I-95" on most cruise ships, including any associated vertical stairway drops to one deck below)  Horizontal step in a main vertical zone  Main galley, associated pantries and multi-deck dining room, refrigerator spaces and associated elevator.  Main dining room  Machinery spaces (continuous from podded propulsion unit, through all associated main machinery spaces, up through the exhaust stack)  Auxiliary machinery space adjacent to the main machinery space to show main transverse watertight bulkhead. Other:  Final product to include two padded metal boxes with casters and handles, one for each of the two parts to facilitate transportation of the model in elevators and in vehicles.  Model shall be finished with high quality lacquer that adheres to all surfaces equally and does not discolor.  Ships data plate shall be included to providing general information on the ship (information to be provided by the CSNCOE).  The Model shall be delivered to 1800 Eller Drive Suite 420, Ft Lauderdale, FL 33316 completed no later than 02 January 2012, prior to the commencement of the Advanced Foreign Passenger Vessel Examiner Course.
