Description
NASA/Ames, Langley and Glenn Research Centers have a requirement for Particle ImageVelocimetry (PIV) software and licenses and software upgrades as well as associatedequipment that is used in PIV data capture and analysis. Specifically, NASA/Ames, Langleyand Glenn Research Centers have a requirement for: Da Vis 8 Software Package, Licenses and Upgrades (data processing only); 2D PIV Software Package, Licenses and Upgrades (data processing only; Stereo PIV Software Package, Licenses and Upgrades (data processing only);Upgrade to Da Vis 8.X - from Da Vis 7.X; GPU Processing for Da Vis 8.X.High-Speed Cameras:PCO/Dimax (4 Megapixel; free of session referencing (possible to change framerates on the fly);Phantom v641 (4 Megapixel sensor, with greater than 6 gigapixels/second throughput. 2560x 1600 resolution; 10-1450 fps full resolution; breakthrough sensitivity and PhantomCinimag compatible); andYLF Dual Cavity Diode Pumped Solid State, High Repetition Rate Laser (Litron LDY304)-dual head, 30 mJ/pulse (@527 nm) at 1 kHz repetition rate, up to 10 kHz repetition ratefrom each head, includes beam combination optics, laser heads, power supply, and chiller.Other PIV-related products as required. All associated products and support equipment must be capable of integration into theexisting PIV systems in use at NASA Ames, Langley and Glenn Research Centers. Background: NASA Ames Research Centers Wind Tunnel facilities support a wide range of researchthrough Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) data capture and analysis. Wind Tunnels research: The availability of velocity data around wind tunnel models is extremely valuable toaircraft and space craft designers, computational fluid mechanists and for scientistsattempting to gain understanding of basic fluids and particle behavior. The technique isnot limited to wind tunnel testing. It is commonly used in turbomachinery, tocharacterize sprays, in ballistic ranges, and water channels. This technique has been used at Ames for more than a decade. The effectiveness andaccuracy of the measurement system is continuously improving, thus a certain year-to-yearinvestment to maintain high standards is necessary. Furthermore, different customersrequire different equipment. Thus having the ability to procure hardware quickly to adaptto the requirements is critical. Research Work to be Performed: The Ames PIV group is slated to perform three tests in FY12. The tests will characterizehigh-velocity metal particles interacting with a variety of materials in the AmesVertical Gun facility. The second is the wake and slipstream of a tractor-trailer modelin the Army 7x10 wind tunnel, and the third is to characterize the wake of the Orioncapsule in the descent configuration in the Ames Unitary 11-foot wind tunnel. Theseresults will help validate the computational models of the flow fields developed by thecustomers. Other NASA Research Centers also have Research Work scheduled during theremainder of the current FY and into FY12.There are four key elements to having an effective PIV system, These are the camara(s),timing devices and software which have been referred to in the PIV systems at both Amesand Langley Research Centers, but another integral component to an effective PIV systemis the laser. As such use of various laser models are essential components to integratedPIV systems. Required Advanced/State-of-the-Art Features: 1) Self-calibration for multiple camera systems; 2) the ability to correct for anymisalignment of the light sheet with the calibration target (translation, rotation, andtilt) using Self Calibration; 3) System can be calibrated without a calibration targetplaced in the flow field (i.e. the system can be calibrated externally) and 4) be opensource, allowing unlimited modifications by the end users.Questions regarding this acquisition must be submitted in writing (e-mail is preferred)to timothy.a.marion@nasa.gov or by fax to (650) 604-0912 no later than August 10, 2011.Telephone questions will not be accepted. Potential quoters may provide a Statement of Capabilities no later than August 12, 2011describing how they are able to provide these products. It is the quoter's responsibilityto monitor this site for the release of amendments (if any). Potential quoters will beresponsible for downloading their own copy of this notice and amendments (if any). An ombudsman has been appointed. NASA Clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, is applicable. Theinstallation Ombudsman is Deborah L. Feng: NASA Ames Research Center;Attn: Deborah L. Feng; Mail Code: 200-9; Moffett Field, CA 94035-0001.The NAICS Code and the small business size standard for this procurement are 541512 and$25M, respectively. The offeror shall state their size status for this procurement intheir offer. The DPAS rating for this procurement is DO-C9.
