The Program Manager for Infantry Weapons (PM IW), Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) is conducting market research on the availability of potential materiel solutions as product improvements for the M40A5 Sniper Rifle including addition of a tripod, modular stock, 10-round magazine, and shorter barrel to reduce overall systems length and weight. The intent of this Product Improvement Program (PIP) is to obtain a product that incorporates all modifications as a holistic, integrated solution (i.e., all components integrated as a single solution by the vendor). The M40A5.308 Winchester Sniper Rifle is a Marine Corps-designed weapon system. Each M40A5 is custom-built at Precision Weapons Section (PWS), Weapons Training Battalion, Quantico, Virginia. It is a bolt-action, manually operated, magazine-fed, shoulder-fired weapon. The M40A5 is employed with the variable-powered Scout Sniper Day Scope (SSDS) and is compatible with a quick detach suppressor. The main battle weapon of the Marine Corps Scout Sniper, it is employed to engage and destroy targets out to 1,000 yards. See attachment for detailed requirement.
