Description
MINING TAX AUDIT ADVISOR The United States Treasury Department Office of Technical Assistance seeks a part-time advisor to provide consultation to foreign tax administrations, largely in developing countries, on audit of mining firms. The initial assignment is likely to be Mongolia. Typical assignments may involve: • Consulting on establishment of a unit in the tax administration whose mission is audit of firms engaged in extraction of natural resources. • Design and documentation of audit processes, consistent with the law and circumstances present in the host country. • Classroom training on audit procedures and techniques. • On-the-job follow-up and mentoring to assure that training is put into practice. Assignments generally involve multiple trips ranging from two to six weeks in duration and may continue over 2 to 3 years. Living and security arrangements are in accordance with U.S. Embassy standards. Qualifications: Applicants should be either: (a) mining engineers, geologists, geophysicists or specialists in allied sciences with experience in tax compliance or tax auditing, or (b) auditors with extensive experience in tax or royalty audits of mining firms. In addition to technical skills, a qualified individual must be able to work in diverse and unfamiliar environments, have outstanding communication skills, and be adept at listening and responding to the client’s needs and proficient in oral and written communication. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or U.S. resident aliens. SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salaries are negotiable in accordance with government regulations based on demonstrated salary history and market comparability of similar positions. The salary range is from $123,758 to $165,300 (or equivalent hourly pay). Overseas benefits are provided as allowed by federal regulations. Successful applicants will be subject to medical clearance and a background security investigation at the appropriate level.
